When a baby is born, a mom is born. This Mother’s Day, Pampers gives thanks to little ones for the unconditional love that fills the hearts of moms.
Pampers has graciously given a few Macaroni Kid publisher moms the opportunity to reflect on being a mom and share our #ThanksBaby letter to our children. My letter is below. “To my children,
I always knew I wanted to be a mom, but I didn’t quite know exactly what that meant… until it happened. From the moment I felt each of you rolling around, hiccuping and kicking me inside my belly, I was in love…. and in awe, I was a mom. You kids are now 11 and 8, and to this day, I’m still blown away by the miracle of having a baby and how incredibly blessed your daddy and I are. Thank you for coming into our lives.
It was a scary leap leaving my career and stepping into the roll of “just a mom.” I worried if just a mom was enough. Would I know what to do, how to care for you, how to calm you when you cry, all those things that come along with being responsible for a tiny, new life. But when the time came for each of you to enter this world, holding you in my arms was incredibly natural and easy. Seeing your beautiful eyes, feeling your soft baby skin, smelling that sweet baby smell, and hearing your tiny heart beat, all quickly became right in the world. At that moment, I knew exactly what I was supposed to be, and the thought of being just a mom felt like an amazing blessing and something I relished. Thank you for calming my fears.
Quite a few years have passed since then leaving me continually wishing I could stop time. However, just when I think I’ve experienced my most favorite age for each of you, you grow another year older and another year more awesome. Sitting and rocking you in the middle of the night while the rest of the world is sleeping, watching you learn to eat solids, take your first steps, hearing you read your first words, letting go of the bicycle and you actually taking off on your own, you learning to write and leaving daddy and I love notes all over the house. Thank you for making each new stage so very special.
Life is so incredibly fun watching you both grow into little people with your own personalities and getting to walk alongside you as you witness all this great big world has to offer. With every new adventure you experience, I am reminded of my own childhood and taken back to the joy of the simple things in life while living vicariously through each of you daily. Thank you for bringing that feeling of wonder and innocence back into this aging adult.
One of my most favorite things about you both is your pure excitement in life and how you both meet things with your foot on the throttle ready to jump into life every morning. You both have the innate ability to have fun no matter what each day brings and spread happiness to everyone around you. Your sense of humor is contagious… really contagious. Thank you for being so darn funny.
Through you both, I personally learn each day to slow down and simply enjoy. Enjoy dancing around the living room, enjoy snuggling together and watching a movie, enjoy chasing lightning bugs around the yard, enjoy finding shapes in the clouds, enjoy challenging each other with silly riddles on boring car rides, enjoy picking up bugs and critters and examining them, enjoy eating our food in silly ways at dinner, enjoy your tight hugs to give me energy when you see I need it, enjoy your non-stop talking (yes, I really do enjoy listening to you), life is so immensely fun with you both. Thank you for helping me truly enjoy.
My future is no longer mine alone. I am a mom, and that is enough, and my cup runneth over with genuine, perfect love.”
