YWA is an after school creative writing program that offers workshops that are not only fun, but offer students a chance to explore their creative side, while achieving a high level of academic excellence. This fall we are offering classes for students ages 4 - 14.

Competition Writing
Wednesdays from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. for Grades 4- 7
Students within the team will work on written pieces to be submitted to national competitions throughout the year. Under the guidance of an YWA instructor, team members will learn and explore a variety of writing genres (i.e. fiction, non-fiction, poetry & essay writing) and then craft pieces to submit. Student work will also be submitted for publication within a partner magazine, as well as within an YWA Anthology, which will be made available on Amazon.
Mystery Writers’ Workshop
Tuesdays from 4:00 – 5:00 p.m. for Grades 3-6
You will start out in “Detective Science School,” learning the tricks of the trade by uncovering fingerprints, heights by footprints, “glass” fragmentation and more. Next, you will learn how to write an unsolvable, plot-twisting mystery. By the end of class, you’ll take home a bound book chock full of red herrings and twists. Students will also be have the option to publish their story within an YWA Anthology that will be available on Amazon.

Small Group Tutoring
Mondays from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. for Grades 6-8
Tuesdays from 5:15 – 6:15 p.m. for Grades 3-5
New this year we are offering small group tutoring sessions. These sessions will be led by experienced educators and cover a variety of writing skills throughout the year. Sessions will range in size from 3-5 students per session.
