CONCORD, N.C. 21 April 2015 – Activate Community Through Theatre (ACT) presents CINDERELLA, an audience participation play for children aged 3 – 12 and for children of all ages in Davidson on May 2nd & 9th at 1pm & 4pm in the ArtSpace at Davidson Community School in Davidson.
Artistic Director, Dr. Wrenn Goodrum, loosely adapted the play from the Cinderella story written by Charles Perrault in 1697. In ACT’s version, Goodrum uses the theme of ‘Pretty is as pretty does’ to instill in its young audiences that one’s behavior determines one’s beauty. Also in this version Cinderella is not only beautiful, but smart and the Prince wants to marry a girl who is intelligent and kind. He discovers Cinderella quoting Shakespeare as she thanks her horses (mice) for helping her and he immediately falls in love. A group of rapping mice interact and hide in the audience bringing the actors even closer to the children in the audience.
In Cinderella, children in the audience are asked to join Cinderella onstage as she cleans the house, dresses for the ball and meets the Prince. The audience can also join in the fun from their seats in many ways such as answering questions from the actors, hiding the mice and even dancing onstage and in the aisles. Parents are welcomed to take photos as their children get into the ACT onstage. Drew DiBenedictis, age 12, of Mooresville, is acting in his fifth ACT production. “I like to act because I can be anyone I want to be and I like ACT’s plays because the audience gets to interact with the actors before and after the show. It’s a special kind of special.”
Audiences are invited to participate in FREE pre-show activities which start thirty minutes before each show.
‘Learn the Mouse Rap’ or ‘Waltz with the Prince’ are just a couple of the activities planned to prepare young audiences for participation in the show.
Performances of Cinderella are May 2nd & 9th at 1pm & 4pm. Performances are held at the ARTSPACE of the Community School of Davidson, 404 Armour Street, Davidson.
