Back to School Traditions

Make it a memorable and joyful year

By Kassidy Weierbach August 22, 2021

It is time to head back to school and after a not so normal school year last year, it is the perfect time to start some back to school traditions (or add a few new ones). Not only are back to school traditions fun, but they can also help ease some first day jitters.

School Year's Eve Party

Think New Year's Eve Party for Kids but the night before the first day of school! So fun! Instead of celebrating with the year (2021) celebrate with their new grade (K, 1, 2, etc.). You can make a pizza shaped like the number of the grade they are going into, top a cake with that number and purchase some balloons. Make fancy apple cider drinks with Carmel and sprinkles on the rim of the glass. You could do a fun count down with new school supplies or school clothes. Don't forget to do a balloon drop and make some back to school crafts!

Back to School Backpack Fairy

The Backpack Fairy brings jitter glitter (glitter to sprinkle to help get the jitters out), new school supplies that they place in an open backpack (or brings a new backpack), and a new school outfit! They can also leave an apple for the child to bring to their new teacher, or leave glitter "accidentally" around the house.

Fashion Show

Take your child on a back to school shopping spree and then have them put on a Fashion Show! This way they can try on their outfits ahead of time to make sure everything fits, and decide how they are going to accesorize each outfit so that there os no stress on school mornings. This would be a great time to set the first week of school outfits out and ready to go with accessorize and all so that clothing is one thing you don't have to worry about the first week of school.

Back to School Pampering

Take your child to get a hair cut, for a massage, a manicure and pedicure or anything that will make them feel pampered. Pick out some bath bombs or other bath time essentials so that they can have a relaxing bath the night before the first day (or when they get back home from the first day of school.)

Back to School Breakfast

Make your Childs favorite breakfast and turn it into a party with fancy plates, cups and decorations. Don't forget to make a fun drink for them as well, like a special smoothie or hot chocolate. Play some games and have a stress free morning before you send them off to the first day of school. They will feel good and you will too.

Back to School Sign

Don't forget to take a back to school picture. You could take this picture with a balloon of the grade they are heading too, an all about me sign or our fun banner flag that you can find here.

Notes of Encouragement

Write your a child a note of encouragement to put next to their breakfast plate, stick inside of their book bag or put in their lunch box to fins half way through the day. (Or do all three) Write anything that will make your child smile from "I am proud of you" to "You are one smart cookie."

Parent/Child Bracelets

Get your child a matching bracelet (or write a note on their hand each day) to remind them that you are always thinking about them and are excited to hear all about their day when they get home.

Back to School Books

Do a countdown to back to school with some back to school books! Just do a quick google search on Amazon of back to school and their will be so many to choose from. A perfect way to connect with your child at the end of the day is by reading books.

Back to School Interview

This one will be fun to look back on in years to come. Either the night before or the morning of the first day of school do a quick video interview of your child. Ask them how old they are, what grade they are going to, what their favorite color is, what they want to be when they grow up, what they are most excited for in the new school year etc.
