January Happenings at Discovery Place

We are kicking off 2017 with some serious science and have plenty of fun to go around at all our Museums. Check out the Top 5 Happenings taking place at Discovery Place in January:   
 
The new planetarium at Discovery Place Nature will open to the public on Saturday, January 14. Save the date for a day out under the stars with your family. Shows will run all day for the grand opening! Details attached. (Media details to follow.)
 
On January 29, Discovery Place Science is teaming up with Tower Bridge International to celebrate the Chinese New Year and ring in The Year of the Rooster. Exchange students and artists from China will be sharing this cultural celebration with the Charlotte community by offering interactive demonstrations and activities in Chinese calligraphy, kite making, paper lantern crafting and more.
 
Dive into science with the new IMAX film Secret Ocean opening in The Charlotte Observer IMAX Dome Theatre on Saturday, January 7. Created by Jean-Michel Cousteau, son of ocean pioneer Jacque Cousteau, this immersive film will take viewers on a unique dive to encounter animals seldom seen by even the most experienced divers in some of the most diverse oceans of the world.
 
Every weekend in January, Discovery Place Kids-Huntersville is hosting a special Science Story Time. Come learn about the power of energy as we shake, move, jump and slide into science with fun books like Move by  Robin Page and Steve Jenkins, The Wind Blew by Pat Hutchins, Fun with Static Electricity by Joy Cowley, The Sun is my Favorite Star by Frank Asch and Meet Einstein by Mariela Kleiner.  
 
All Discovery Place Museums will be open on Monday, January 16 for Martin Luther King Jr. Day. Stop by Discovery Place Science, Discovery Place Nature or Discovery Place Kids from 9:00 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. for a day of play, adventure and discovery.
