Pointe the Way

An Evening to Benefit Reach

Hosted by Corps de Ballet, Pointe the Way is an evening of cocktails,  great food, live music, dancing and a variety of exciting auction items– all to support Reach, Charlotte Ballet’s nationally recognized outreach dance scholarship program for children.

“This year guests at Pointe the Way will enjoy an elegant affair with a dangerous flair, as the event is taking inspiration from Charlotte Ballet’s upcoming performance of Dangerous Liaisons,” said Kelly Thomas, President of the Corps de Ballet.

Guests can expect to enjoy a special menu of French-themed heavy hors d’oeuvres and dessert from Georges Brasserie, wine provided by Hahn Family Winery, beer provided by Olde Mecklenburg Brewery and the always-popular Tutu-tini. They will mingle with Charlotte Ballet Company Dancers, while enjoying live music from the Cross/McMullen/Williams Trio featuring Gena Chambers, and have the opportunity to bid on wonderful items in an extensive silent auction. Pointe the Way guests will also get an exclusive sneak peak at excerpts of Sasha Janes’ Dangerous Liaisons, which opens at the Knight Theater October 9.

“The Corps de Ballet continues to provide vital support for Reach,” said Doug Singleton, Charlotte Ballet’s Executive Director. “Through Pointe the Way they help to foster friendships and an appreciation of dance in our community. The funds raised help to ensure the deserving students in Reach continue to have access to high quality dance training.”

About Reach

Reach makes quality dance training accessible to minority, male and female students, with evidenced financial need and little if any previous dance experience, who demonstrate a natural talent for movement and the potential to be trained in dance. The program affords children the opportunity to access quality dance training in their neighborhoods, free of charge, promoting self-esteem, discipline, a strong work ethic and an appreciation for the arts.

Open auditions are held each year for Reach and selection is determined based on three criteria- natural abilities/ the potential to be trained in dance, financial need and family commitment to the program. Students selected for Reach attend classes twice a week for twenty-nine consecutive weeks, at one of four Park and Recreation centers, and all first- year students receive dance attire at no charge to their families. Students and their parents also receive tickets to select NC Dance Theatre’s professional dance performances. In 2011, Reach won a program achievement award from the National Association of County Organizations.

About Corps de Ballet
The Corps de Ballet, Charlotte Ballet’s volunteer service and social organization, has supported the Company since its relocation to Charlotte in 1991. The Corps’ energetic members enjoy a wide range of service, educational, and social events during the dance season, providing a unique behind the scenes volunteer experience.  In recent years, the organization's fundraising efforts have evolved to focus on dance outreach through funding support of the Reach program. The warm partnership between the Corps and the Company fosters friendships, community support, and appreciation of dance performance and production.
