The Wee Pirates of Treasure Island Opens ACT’s Third Season of
Audience Participation Plays for Children
Activate Community Through Theatre (ACT) opens its third season of audience participation plays for children 3+ and children of all ages in Davidson November 1st and 8th at 1pm and 4pm.
ACT’s audience participation production, The Wee Pirates of Treasure Island will delight children of all ages in the classic story of a young boy who seeks treasure along with a motley crew of ‘Wee’ pirates. Artistic Director, Dr. Wrenn Goodrum adapted the story into an audience participation comedy from the book by Robert Louis Stevenson.
Children will join the cast as pirates on the ship, sound-makers on the island and even create the hole from which the treasure is dug. ACT’s company of eleven youth aged 7-15 from the Lake Norman area will lead FREE pre-show activities for audiences who arrive thirty minutes before the show. Activities include ‘A Treasure Hunt’, ‘Pin the gold doubloon in the treasure chest’, ‘Learning to walk and talk like a pirate’ and more.
Parents are encouraged to take photos as their children get into the ACT onstage. Dr. Wrenn Goodrum, Artistic Director of ACT, produced Treasure Island several times with her former company, All Children’s Theatre, in Providence, RI. Goodrum discovered there was a need for productions that urged audience members aged 3 - 12 and audiences of all ages to help tell the story. ”I wanted children to feel a part of the production…to participate, not just watch as an outsider.
Performances for The Wee Pirates of Treasure Island are November 1st and 8th at 1pm and 4pm.
